CBI Gets Lie detector test approval for Kolkata rape-murder accused

The Kolkata court allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to give a lie detector test to the trainee postgraduate doctor’s rape-murder accused, Sanjay Roy.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday got a green signal from a Kolkata court to take Sanjay Roy, the accused in the rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, through a lie detector test.

Roy, who is a civic volunteer, was arrested a day after the doctor’s dead body was recovered from the seminar hall of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.

In the initial probe of the case, the police have learned that the accused, Sanjay Roy, used to take alcohol before the occurrence of the crime, informed the police sources.

The sources said that on the night of the incident, at around 11 p.m., Sanjay proceeded to a place behind the hospital in order to drink alcohol, and, as has been reported, he used to spend his time watching pornography there.

Police sources also revealed that Roy had come to the hospital several times that night to see the victim. But the accused did not have such a reason to be in the department at night, stated the police earlier.

He has been described by Policemal as having a ‘perverted mind’ although researchers have noted that the kind of pornography he was involved in was not the kind ‘people watch’.

From the ensuing analysis, it was discovered that after the commission of the act, Roy sought to remove potential evidence. Cops noted what he attempted to clean blood stains from the scene using water. Other than that, the CCTV also clearly reveals Roy leaving the seminar room at about 4.45 am.

Here, the legal fraternity also joined the protest by the doctors all across the country demanding justice for the victim, with lawyers practicing at the Calcutta High Court most notably taking out a rally demanding ‘punishment to the real culprits’.

Many of the senior lawyers came out onto the streets; some of them are former Advocate General of West Bengal Jayanta Mitra and participated in the protest march.
