They said it was not the case of gang rape as probe into the murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is still under prosecution in Kolkata. Sources have suggested that the person who was detained for the crime at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 wearing the outfit is known to be a civic volunteer Sanjoy Roy.
Medico-legal records reveal that the doctor was raped and then killed by Roy, who used his association with Kolkata Police to access the hospital premises unrestricted. Police laid charge against him and there is DNA evidence that has been attributed to the commission of the crime.
Such conclusions can be viewed as crucial, or even vital, especially in light of first, or rather primitive assumptions regarding a gang-rape situation that stirred the public’s anger and protests across the entire country. Roy was arrested on the next day after the mutilated dead body of a doctor was found in a seminar hall in the hospital on August 10.
CBI team has also seized CCTV footage in which roy was found to have entered the hospital at the time of the incident. Bluetooth headset belonging to him was recovered from the scene of crime, thus incriminating him.
Nonetheless, the investigation into potential accomplices by the CBI is still continuing and has proposed to take the opinion of independent forensic experts to get a broad analysis.
Earlier, propositions were made by doctors, including Dr Goswami, that the character of the injuries pointed to possible gang rape, on the basis of there being found 151 mg of liquid in vaginal swabs. The victim’s parents said as much in the Calcutta High Court, about a given amount of ‘a significant amount of semen’.
Allegations of this nature were refuted by the Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra noting that the 150 grams referred to in accounts of the incident are weight of genitalia and not a volume of the fluid and denied that the autopsy report indicated multiple players’ involvement.
