The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made a significant breakthrough during its ongoing raids in the Sandeshkhali area of West Bengal. The agency has uncovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including foreign-made pistols, as part of its investigation into an attack on an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team. The assault was allegedly instigated by a local Trinamool Congress leader named Sheikh Shahjahan.
The CBI’s search operation, which is still underway, has yielded crucial evidence at multiple locations. The recovery of these weapons has raised concerns about the prevailing law and order situation in Sandeshkhali, where criminal activities and exploitation of vulnerable populations have been reported.
The attack on the ED team occurred on January 5, when they were conducting a raid on Sheikh Shahjahan’s premises in connection with an alleged ration scam. Following the incident, the CBI registered three First Information Reports (FIRs) on the orders of the Calcutta High Court, which had directed the agency to take over the investigation into various offenses in the Sandeshkhali region. These offenses include illegal land acquisitions, acts of violence, and sexual assault against women.
The recovery of arms and ammunition during the CBI’s probe indicates the presence of a hidden arsenal in Sandeshkhali. The agency’s efforts to uncover the truth and maintain law and order in the region continue, with the deployment of National Security Guard (NSG) commandos adding an extra layer of security.
