CDSCO modernizes inspector training with digital initiatives

Delhi, India’s premier drug regulating authority, is in the process of enhancing the inspecting facilities by changing the mode of delivery from postal service to e-mailing. The CDSCO aspires to update its training programs to prepare inspectors for the contemporary drug markets.

Due to advancements in multiple sectors, such as pharmaceuticals, biologicals, and medical devices, the CDSCO’s training cell has embarked on a broad program to ensure equal and improved human resources at central and state levels.

Part of this effort comprises particular training sessions and such courses as groundwork, fundamental, intermediate, and advanced levels, aimed at preparing the inspectors for the enactment of Schedule M with a view of maintaining Indian manufacture of the medicines’ purity as perceived by the international health authorities.

The changes were proposed and debated in the 64th meeting of the Drug Consultative Committee (DCC). Another change that the DCGI adopted is the change of participants’ nomination mode from the earlier common practice of post method to electronic mode of communication.

Other recommendations from the DCC include developing a procedure for selecting candidates for training, a performance assessment tool checklist, e-training, and certification modules. The DCC also recommended that state licensing authorities help support regional training programs by discovering viable premises and issues to improve localized training.
