Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express train derails in Uttar Pradesh, casualties reported

In an unfortunate event today, train number 15619 Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express met with a disaster in the Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh, and it resulted in the death of several lives and more than twenty passengers sustained injuries.

As reported by the officials, the collision was between the Gonda and Jhilahi stations on the railway and many coaches and the locomotive part of the train derailed. Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak has put the death toll at four following the accident.

’A loco pilot said that he heard a loud explosion shortly before the accident,’ the station attending to the railway said, noting that an official investigation into the circumstances that led to the derailment has been launched at the highest level.

The armed forces and ambulances have been called in, and the wounded passengers are being ferried to nearby hospitals as soon as possible. From the pictures taken at the scene, people are seen agglomerating alongside the rail tracks with their possessions while the damaged coaches are on the side.

A passenger described the incident and said, “I had a rather narrow escape. Thank you, God, that I am alive. ”

North Eastern Railways has provided helpline numbers in case the stranded travellers require any help; several trains have been routed differently as a result of the tragedy.

Uttar Pradesh government has informed that the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has been informed about the situation, while the district administration officials have been instructed to speed up the speed of the rescue and relief operations.

“Separately, the UP CMO said that the Chief Minister has directed the officials to take the injured to the hospital and ensure that they are treated well, adding that he prayed for the early recovery of the injured persons,” he said.

This unfortunate incident again underlined the necessity of the safety mechanism and sound rail tracks in Indian railways. As a contributing factor determined by the authorities, the nation is in mourning for the lost dear lives in this sad incident.
