Chaos grips team India’s homecoming celebration in Mumbai

South Mumbai was a bowl full of ecstatic fans rejoicing the Indian cricket team’s homecoming from the T20 World Cup victory. Nevertheless, this event quickly turned into great mayhem, and the vast crowds converged on the place, precipitating misfortunes and problems on the spot.

The mass that thronged just to behold their cricket superstars led to a total jam, to the extent that the traffic in that area was at a standstill. People sang national anthems and danced enthusiastically in what was nearly a politically correct riot; joy was quickly replaced by distress as the crowding resembled a stampede.

Despite inefficiency and overcrowding, the systems came under scrutiny when a video that resulted in sordid controversy emerged the scene of a Mumbai Police official dragging a naked, unconscious woman in the middle of the crowd.

The video has received various responses, and some appreciate the stand of officers in defending the country’s honor. In contrast, others have wondered why the police or security officials cannot control crowds to avoid such incidents.

People took to their social media accounts to share their real-life experiences, describing how they felt. Breathlessness, rain, and humidity were problems to the extent that they sustained some injuries. Some visible incidents also occurred, such as children going missing who were later rescued by the policemen deployed for the said duty and taken to the police station.

However, restrictions were the keyword, with roads towards the famous Wankhede Stadium and Marine Drive closed and establishments around the venue seeing the light early. As far as their employees were concerned, the crowd was too large to be contained.

The enthusiasm and joy seen in Team India’s homecoming were submerged in logistic issues that emerged. Their vulgar display during the homecoming was pathetic and pointed towards the lack of proper coordination and planning in such huge homecomings.
