Amid the political crises in Bangladesh, Air India has said that it will conduct its two evening flights, AI237 Delhi-Dhaka and AI238 Dhaka-Delhi, on Tuesday. It has also provided a one-time voluntary rule waiver regarding the changing of flights to and from Dhaka.
On X (previously Twitter), Air India said that according to the current situation in Dhaka, Air India is providing a one-time courtesy to its passengers who hold confirmed bookings on any of the AI flights to and from Dhaka between 4th August 2024 to 7th August 2024 who wish to exercise their options to make a one-time change without any charges Air India assures passengers that they will be able to exercise this one
The airline also elaborated that tickets could only be purchased up to August 5. This was a clear reference to the safety and security of passengers and crew on its flights. Thus, Air India continued with its assurance on the safety of its customers and crew by saying, “It is also pertinent to reaffirm that the safety of customers and crew is always paramount to Air India.
The launch comes at a time when Bangladesh is experiencing a political crisis, which has led Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign and flee after more than a month of protest. I understand that the military has said it will create an interim government.
Continuing an iron grip on Bangladesh for fifteen years as prime minister, Hasina had to leave the country on Monday due to the severe shootings of protesters who once demanded job quotas but organized to oust Hasina, with hundreds killed.
Amid the political turmoil in Bangladesh, Jaishankar said on Tuesday that the External Affairs Ministry is in constant communication with the authorities in Dhaka.
‘In the last 24 hours, we have also communicated regularly with the authorities in Dhaka. This is the current stand. I request the House to understand and appreciate the government’s stand on sensitive issues about an important neighboring country about whom there has always been unanimity,’ Jaishankar said.
The minister’s statement suggests that India remains very attentive to developments in Bangladesh, its neighboring and strategically significant country.
