Clashes erupt between security forces and terrorists in Shopian

A cordon and search operation launched in Srinagar on Tuesday became an encounter and the gunfight is on. There are no reports so far of anyone being killed on either side. Further details are awaited. An encounter erupted between security forces and militants in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, officials said to news agency PTI.

According to the report, a cordon and search operation was initiated in Shopian on Tuesday based on input regarding the presence of militants in the Shukroo Keller area. The officials added the search operation developed into an exchange after the terrorists opened fire against the forces, who in return fired back at them. Fire is continuing between the two groups, and thus far, neither side has yet reported any injuries, the report further stated.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday spoke to the nation, the first since Operation Sindoor was conducted in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, and stated that the operation had etched a new benchmark in the war against terror in India.

PM Modi also alluded to India having carried out a surgical strike in 2016 at terror launching pads on the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir and at an air strike against a terror camp in Pakistan in 2019 and stated that the two operations later on, Operation Sindoor is the policy of India against terrorism. The PM further stated that India will not distinguish between sponsoring terrorism by the government and the people behind terrorism.
