A senior Congress leader from Telangana filed a police complaint against Telugu star Allu Arjun in connection with his film Pushpa 2: The Rise. The complaint filed by Theenmar Mallanna at the Medipalli police station said that the police force was insulted in one of the scenes in the movie.
Mallanna voiced criticism at the very portion when, in the movie, its hero is shown urinating in a swimming pool, all in the presence of the police officer himself. Disrespectful and a denigrating blow to the dignity of police machinery, he has described. The complaint further nominated as accused director Sukumar, the producers of the film for the latter’s “offending depiction” of police, urging upon appropriate strict action against them.
This complaint comes on the back of a tragedy at its December 4 premiere where one woman was killed and her eight-year-old son seriously injured and put in a coma due to a stampede at Hyderabad movie hall. Police permission for the event was denied and yet the Telugu superstar, Allu Arjun was very much a part of this premiere. He was taken in police custody later and granted bail on bail grounds.
While the woman’s husband Bhaskar is reportedly willing to withdraw the case against the actor, state police have issued a fresh notice asking Allu Arjun to appear before it for questioning.
The issue snowballed into a political row after violent protests outside the actor’s house with opposition parties like BJP and Bharat Rashtra Samithi, too targeted the Congress government. Now, reports also surfaced that some of the accused identified in the protests are close to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s Kodangal assembly constituency. Six of those, who identified themselves as students of Osmania University, were arrested for smashing flower pots and throwing tomatoes on the property of Allu Arjun.
