The Kerala Congress and the Kerala Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) clashed on Sunday over Prime Minister Narendra Modi being a meeting point with the Pope during the G 7 Summit.
The aggressive campaign started when the Congress party of Kerala published a picture of PM Modi and the Pope on Twitter, putting them in the same frame and making fun of the Pope, saying, “Finally, Pope has got a chance to meet God”.
Irritated by that post, the BJP claims that the Kerala Congress Twitter looks to be managed by radical Islamists or Urban Naxals.
BJP state president K Surendran addressed a tweet targeting the Congress party in the state, alleging that its official media put out derogatory and humiliating content against nationalist leaders. He also wondered if the party chief, Mallikarjun Kharge, and the senior leader, Rahul Gandhi, approve the content in the following.
Union Minister & BJP leader George Kurian also criticized Congress and said that the Congress’ tweet referring to Modi Prime Minister Modi as Jesus Christ is disgraceful and is an insult to the whole of Christianity.
In response, the Congress Kerala unit came up with another tweet again in retaliation and with sarcasm saying,” Better luck next time guys #Surendran #OtherModiParivar.”
But to call Anthony’s bluff, the grand old party later came out with a rather comprehensive and caustic post stating inter-alia that the party has never insulted or disparaged any religion, religious priests, or idols. Lastly, the Congress claimed that it doesn’t have any issue in ‘trolling’ Narendra Modi who the Congress alleges ‘dishonours the worshippers of this nation by declaring himself as God.
It also said that by joining forces with Surendran and the BJP, the party sought to “debase Christians as a group of people with no pride and further the agenda of sectarian division.”
The war of words raised political rivalry between the Congress-led UDF and the BJP in Kerala, with both attempting to exploit the words of the Prime Minister that provoked the Indian Muslim population.
