A delegation from the Indian National Congress (INC), comprising Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Gurdeep Sappal, and Supriya Shrinate, recently met with the Election Commission of India to lodge 16 complaints against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and other entities. These complaints allege violations of The Representation of the People Act, 1951, Supreme Court judgments, and the ECI’s Model Code of Conduct.

The Congress general secretary, Jairam Ramesh, expressed confidence that the Election Commission would promptly address these “valid complaints.” One of the complaints specifically targets Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of exploiting religion to dissuade voters from supporting the INC and making false and defamatory statements against the party and its leaders.

Additionally, the Congress has registered a complaint regarding Doordarshan News’s new saffron logo, claiming that the color is closely associated with the BJP in Indian politics. The party has requested an inquiry into the timing of this decision, considering it was made during the election period.

The Election Commission declined to comment on Prime Minister Modi’s recent speech in Rajasthan, where he alleged potential wealth redistribution to Muslims if Congress came to power. The opposition party challenged Modi to provide evidence of such claims in their manifesto. BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia defended the Prime Minister, stating that he has boldly addressed the reality and sentiments of the people.
