In the wake of the October 5 Haryana assembly elections, the Congress party has unveiled in its election manifesto a slew of populist measures such as the establishment of a women’s helpline, ₹ 2,000 monthly dole for women between 18 and 60 years of age, introduction of caste survey and foreclosure of all cases by December 31, among others. The manifesto was released during a congress event in Delhi, which was presided over by the party leader Mallikarjun Kharge.
Kharge also stressed seven assurances: a Cap on LPG cylinders at ₹ 500, ₹ 6000-pound Pension for elders, widows, and the physically challenged, the Scrapping of NPS for Government employees, a free electricity commitment of up to 300 units per household, and free medical treatment up to ₹ 25 lakh.
Specific popular pledges included 200000 jobs for the youth and no tolerance of addictive substances. Further, it talked about offering 100-year plots for the poor and two-room apartments at ₹3. 5 lakh.
In order to support farmers, Congress promised to pass MSP legal rights and assured farmers of immediate financial aid in case of crop loss.
Haryana Congress chief Udai Bhan said the party wants the state to emerge again as a leading state in terms of development. The Congress party is getting ready to contend with the ruling BJP, with the counting of votes scheduled for October 8.
