Congress vows to alleviate manipur crisis, condemns BJP’s apathy

Further, due to the ethnic conflicts in Manipur, the Congress party, in its internal meeting, planned to chalk out a strategy as to how to help the bullied masses of the state of Manipur. The meeting was presided over by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, former chief Rahul Gandhi, and general secretary KC Venugopal of the grand old party. It was briefed by a few members of the Manipur unit of the said party.

In a string of more aggressive attacks on the X and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, Kharge labeled it a chief minister who displays “abject apathy” towards the people of Manipur.

He was categorical that the incumbent BJP-led state government of Haryana is ‘in active collusion to allow such violent attacks not to occur’ while describing the devastating ‘cycle of unrest’ as tens of thousands continue to be trapped in the ‘endless wheel of war.’

Manipur Congress guardian Keisham Meghchandra, currently heading the Congress party MLAs in Manipur, similarly conveys the same sentiments of Kharge, saying that the high command holds commitments and aspirations for the people of the state. Meghchandra pointed out that the two MPS of the party have been provided a chance to speak on Manipur’s matter in the lower House of the Parliament.

The Congress could not leave Manipur as a404-partner Ignoring Manipur, especially at this time when the Congress demonstrated a fresh commitment towards the northeastern region by winning both Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur seats in the recent Lok Sabha polls.

The situation has degenerated to the point that it fueled more violence, which led to the death of more than 200 people and forced thousands to flee from their homes, hence the criticism of the BJP government both at the center and the state for failing to address these issues adequately.

He had stayed in the state for two days in June 2023 and held interactions with many Meitei and Kuki people, which have been reported earlier. Gandhi started the second edition of the Bharat Jodo Yatra in the Thoubal district of Manipur on January 14 this year.

Hence, the renewed incidence in Manipur embodied the Congress’s effortality to rebrand as the party that stands for people against the state repression.
