Controversy strikes Delhi Women’s Commission as 223 employees removed

The situation turned topsy-turvy when the Delhi Women’s Commission (DWC) was investigated for the wrongful appointments of 223 employees, which were found to be devoid of the proper approval of a competent authority.

The order for the suspension, issued by the Lt. Governor on May 2nd, was passed following a Women’s Commission of Delhi post highlighting irregular and unauthorized appointments.

The WCD(Women and Child Development) department of the Delhi Government, by sending an advisory to the DCW, ordered the termination of these staff members’ eligibility on the grounds of failure to observe the correct procedures during the hiring processes.

“Tughlaqi” decree, the title of Swati Maliwal, the former DCW chief and the AAP MP in the Rajya, criticised the order calling it a “great that it be immediately annulled”. She questioned the reason of embarking into a process that would, so to speak, close the Women’s Commission by terminating all implementing contracts.

An order of that nature was approved by the Lt. Governor V. K. Saxena and was later followed by the banned orders conveyed by the Department of WCD.

The order said that the DCW would terminate at once the appointments of personnel under contract obtained without proper authorization and also in contravention of the regulations.

It was the dispute nodule from creating 223 posts and the involvement of staff in performing their duties without following prescribed protocol through violation of the provision of the DCW Act and standing orders.
