A Karnataka court has asked Lokayukta to investigate Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the MUDA land scam case and submit a report within three months.
A special court in Karnataka on Wednesday directed the Lokayukta (state-level corruption ombudsman) to probe a corruption case involving Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, in the alleged irregularities in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) land scam case.
It has sought the Lokayukta to file a report within three months and passed an order that competent authorities would file an FIR in the case.
The Karnataka High Court yesterday delivered a huge blow to Siddaramaiah by dismissing his plea challenging the legality of the Governor’s approval for an investigation against him in the MUDA case.
It was not easy to accept that Siddaramaiah was not “behind the curtain” during the whole MUDA land transaction, from which his family purportedly gained about Rs 56 crore, said the bench comprising Justice M Nagaprasanna.
The Governor’s prosecution sanction was given in July following complaints by three activists – TJ Abraham, Snehamai Krishna and Pradeep Kumar SP – against Siddaramaiah in the MUDA case.
Siddaramaiah had objected to the sanction for an inquiry under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Section 218 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.
