Deadly boiler blast at Ahmedabad industrial estate kills two

In a tragic incident, a boiler explosion at the Bansi Powder Coating Godown in Ahmedabad’s Arihant Industrial Estate has claimed the lives of two individuals, including the factory owner.

The incident occurred on Monday in the Odhav area of the city, where the Bansi Powder Coating facility was located. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Rameshwar Patel, 50, the owner of the establishment, and Pawan Kumar, 25, an employee.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Krunal Desai stated that the preliminary investigations have revealed that the casualties were caused due to the boiler explosion at the facility. The blast was powerful enough to bring down the entire shed, with two others sustaining minor injuries, including a nearby shopkeeper whose wall was damaged.

“The fire was soon controlled and did not spread beyond the boiler unit. It was a small unit with a small shed of around 4-5 workers. Two persons received minor injuries, including a nearby shopkeeper whose wall got damaged due to the blast, but they were treated there and did not require hospitalization,” Desai said.

The Odhav police have registered a case of accidental death in connection with the incident. The godown specializes in coloring and powder coating various equipment and typically uses commercial gas cylinders. However, ACP Desai confirmed no evidence of any blast in the gas cylinders.

The tragic incident again highlighted the importance of stringent safety measures in industrial units, particularly those dealing with high-pressure equipment like boilers. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the explosion and ensure appropriate measures are taken to prevent such accidents.
