Deadly cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh, rescue efforts continue

The rescue operations were continued on Saturday with the help of drones in order to search for about 45 people who are still missing after the flash floods due to three cloudbursts in three districts of Himachal Pradesh, namely Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla, on Wednesday night.

It was said by officials that through the tragic incidents, the death rate has counted up to eight and more than 60 houses have been burned in the hill state.

The meteorological office in Himachal Pradesh today warned of isolated heavy rain, storms, and lightning in ten out of the districts of the state till August 6, raising a ‘yellow’ alert.

As many as 115 roads, out of which 46 are in Mandi, 38 in Kullu, and 15 in Shimla, have been closed for traffic, the state operation emergency center has stated.

Apart from that, scattered light rains were still experienced in some areas in the said state. Kasol received 33mm of rain, Seobagh received 19mm, while Hamirpur received 11mm and Manali 10mm, followed by 7mm. 2 mm in Nahan, 7 mm each in Nadaun and Bilaspur, 6 mm in Jubbarhatti, 3 mm in Dharamshala, Solan, and Keylong, and 2 mm each in Mandi and Chamba on Friday.

Currently, as many as 53 persons are still reported missing in Shimla, Mandi, and Kullu districts as the rivers are in spate following the heavy rains. Two dead persons were recovered in Mandi’s Rajban village and one in Kullu’s Nirmand. Three more bodies have been recovered, and hence the death rises to eight.

Earlier, five bodies were found in Mandi’s Rajban village; two of them were identified as Aman (9) and Aryan (8); one body was recovered in Kullu’s Nirmand; and two mutilated parts of the body were found in Rampur.
