
Eleven people were killed and fifteen injured in a fatal road accident in Ferozepur district following a collision between a pick-up van and a canter truck on Friday morning, the police said.
The pick-up van was carrying waiters to a function at Jalalabad when the mishap occurred near a village in the Guruharsahai sub-division around 8 AM.
The emergency response teams of the “Sadak Suraksha Force” promptly reached the site and initiated the rescue operation. The injured victims have been hospitalized in different hospitals, where most of the critically injured patients were referred to the Guru Gobind Singh Medical College in Faridkot, while other injured were referred to the Civil Hospital in Jalalabad.
Ferozepur’s Senior Superintendent of Police Saumya Mishra has stated that a probe into the cause of the collision is underway. Five ambulances were deputed immediately after the accident, Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma said, adding the administration shall bear the expenditure for the treatment of the injured.
The tragic news has drawn condolences from various political leaders, including Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Taking to social media platform X, Mann said, “I pray to God for the peace of the departed souls and the speedy recovery of the injured. The Punjab government stands with the affected families in this difficult time.”
Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal also expressed his grief, conveying heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and praying for the early recovery of the injured. “Deeply saddened to learn about a fatal road accident near Guruharsahai in Ferozepur district this morning,” he posted.
Former Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh joined in the mourning, extending his condolences to the victims’ families and praying for the quick recovery of those injured.
The community has started rallying round, supporting the bereaved families through this sad occurrence.
