As a sad occurrence, six people perished. In contrast, four others sustained severe injuries in a horrific two-car crash on the Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway or the Samruddhi Mahamarg, some 400 km from Mumbai, near the Kadwanchi village in Jalna district.
The accident happened late last night at 11:00 PM. A crisp Swift Dzire, which had just refueled from the wrong side of the highway, rammed into an oncoming Ertiga car traveling from Nagpur to Mumbai.
The intensity of the accident was so enormous that the Ertiga was ultimately tossed onto the barricade of the highway after the collision, and the passengers of the car were giggled out of the car and onto the road. The other car involved in the crash, Swift Dzire, was completely crushed to become an iron ball.
Regrettably, all six people died on the scene, and their gruesome, lifeless bodies were recovered lying on the highway. Both the Samruddhi Highway Police and the Jalna Police were informed about the occurrence immediately, and the officials reached the spot. There was a need to evacuate the involved vehicles from the scene, and this was done using a crane.
After this, the injured passengers were evacuated to the district hospitable for treatment. Partially operational, six-lane, and 701 km long, SAMRIDDHI MAHAMARG is one of the longest green field road projects in India, connecting two important cities of Maharashtra, Mumbai and Nagpur, which is the third largest city in the state.
Still, this tragic accident reminds all motorists on the roads, especially those on high-speed expressways such as the Samruddhi Mahamarg, to be careful and observe set traffic laws and regulations. The police have opened a formal inquiry to determine the specifics of the accident and whether careless driving caused it.
