Deadly explosion at Andhra Pradesh pharmaceutical company

The blast occurred in a special economic zone in Achutapuram.

District Collector Vijaya Krishnan said at least four people were killed and several were injured in the blast in Anakapalle in Andhra Pradesh. It occurred at Achutapuram Special Economic Zone.

The blast took place at the Escientia Company, a pharma firm’s plant at SEZ, Ahmednagar. Due to the incident, the affected have been moved to the NTR Hospital for treatment.

‘Four of my employees were killed,’ Krishnan said. ‘This did not occur due to a reactor explosion.’ Authorities believe it might have been caused by electricity complications.

Fortunately, the mishap occurred at lunchtime; had it occurred in the morning or in the evening, there could have been serious casualties. Some portions of the’spot’ do depict billowing smoke and fire incorporating several villages.

The District Collector and the Superintendent of Police have left for the spot of the accident. Currently, there is relief and rescue being conducted.

The collector said 13 people who were locked inside the unit have been rescued.
