Deadly terrorist attack targets army convoy in Jammu and Kashmir

In a vicious aggressive action, the Lashkar-e-Toiba group of Pakistani terrorists cowardly attacked an army jeep in K[athua District of Jammu and Kashmir, killing five of Mansoons bravest soldiers and also injuring five other army personnel. The attack occurred on Monday in the vicinity of the Badnota village and speaks about the continuation of the terrorism problem in the area.

Reportedly, the terrorists employed automatic firearms, particularly M4 Carbine rifles, along with some blasts and coordinated attacks. They had evidently ‘cased’ the attack area, perhaps with local sympathizers’ assistance; therefore, the attack could have been premeditated.

The army truck was attacked close to Badnota village, about 150 kilometers from Kathua town, at about 3. 30 pm on Monday. Among the casualties, there was one Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), and a five-man team was wiped out in the process, and this attack has been condemned.

In response, the Defence Ministry categorized the event as a ‘cowardly act’ and promised that ‘the sacrifice of the soldiers will not go unavenged’, to which President Droupati Murmu added her words of ‘firm counter-measure’.

The soldiers injured are being treated in hospitals currently, and there has been a big search operation, which is still going on to track the militants, who are believed to have escaped to the nearby forests. Yet the large number of hills, fog and improvised vegetation has been the major hurdle in the search.

This recent act of terror, which is the fifth in the Jammu region in the last month, has yet again demonstrated the insecure state of the region. Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge have condemned the attacks, terming them acts of cowards.

While the nation is in deep mourning for these human securities, the authorities are focused on seeing that the bloodshed was not in vain and that the culprits are dealt with as per the law. Thus, constant anti-terrorist actions in the territory prove the government’s readiness to support stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
