Death toll rises to 8 in Haryana boiler blast.
The death toll from a boiler blast at a factory in Haryana’s Rewari last week has risen to eight after three more critically injured workers succumbed to their injuries. Deva Nand (22) and Amarjeet (35), residents of Uttar Pradesh, who were undergoing treatment at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) in Rohtak and a hospital in Delhi, respectively, passed away.
One more victim from Delhi Hospital also died during treatment. This takes the total fatalities from the March 16 incident to eight.
Around 40 workers were injured in the explosion at the factory located in Dharuhera industrial area of Rewari. Besides the deceased, 12 injured are still admitted at PGIMS, while others are getting treatment in Delhi.
The condition of some is said to be critical. Dharuhera SHO Jagdish Chander said three of the injured at PGIMS are in ICU, and doctors are trying their best to save them.
He informed me that a case had been registered on the workers’ complaint against the factory owner, manager, and contractor. However, no arrest has been made so far due to the lack of identity proof of the accused.
An SDM-led team is investigating the matter. The CM has announced monetary compensation for victims’ families and ordered a probe.
However, allegations of safety lapses continue to plague the factory with a worker alleging little safety concern. The company maintains adequate precautions, and a short circuit caused the mishap.
