While the water conditions worsen in Delhi, the city authorities have already responded to the dangers threatening the vital water supply. Delhi’s Minister of Water, Atishi, has written a letter to the Delhi Police Commissioner to provide security and patrol on the major water pipelines in the capital.
Atishi citing statistics showed that water production has decreased by about 70 million gallons per day in the last week due to low water from the Yamuna River. She urged for increasing the security measures around the water distribution network by giving some examples of pipeline damage including the recent case of the sabotage in South Delhi.
The minister has made this appeal when the city struggles with the water crisis and many parts of Delhi continue to face shortages. The situation has also brought out protesters and political unrest; the BJP and Delhi Congress staged a protest and accused AAP of a failure.
At the same time, the AAM MLA Dilip Pandey met the Union Jal Shakti Minister to request action regarding interstate water sharing, which has exacerbated the problem. While political executives blame each other for the water shortage, the inhabitants of Delhi take the brunt of this issue.
