Delhi coaching center tragedy: Five accused in judicial custody

Three of the plastic affectionates for the UPSC study died a tragic death when they drowned in a flooded basement at Rau’s IAS Study Circle in Old Rajender Nagar, New Delhi. For the incident, the Delhi police arrested five persons, released them on bail, and again arrested and jailed them for a 14-day judicial remand.

Five people were trapped, including the driver and the owner of the car, who incidentally entered the rainwater. due to this, more water came, so the basement door opened. Kathuria had been charged with section 105 of the BNS, namely culpable homicide that does not amount to murder, together with section 115 (2) that reveals voluntarily causing hurt to others.

A video driving a Force Gurkha through the waterlogged road of the coaching centre, with the gate of the coaching centre collapsed due to the pressure of the water, showing the coaching centre wherein one of the students filmed the incident and went viral has named him Kathuria.

Kathuria’s lawyer, Advocate Rakesh Malhotra, said that there was no bar on the main road, the speed of the SUV was 15km per hour, and water had only risen to up to 2. 5 feet. However, the Delhi police moved to the court to reject the bail application of the driver because his act escalated the situation.

Except for Kathuria, the other five persons still in police custody are the owners of Rau’s IAS Study Circle and a coordinator. The building that was flooded had distinct floor owners; the basement owners were arrested, too.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has since set up a Committee to ascertain liability for this incident as they called for a proper probe into the unfortunate incident that caused the death of several persons.
