A court in Delhi has found Congress MP Sajjan Kumar guilty for his involvement in the anti-Sikh riots of 1984 that led to the murder of two persons. The judgement of the case was pronounced on Wednesday by Kaveri Baweja, Special Judge of the court, who has set the next date for hearing the sentencing arguments on February 18.
Kumar was brought from Tihar jail for the court hearing of the scheduled verdict. The case deals with the unfortunate incident of death of Jaswant Singh along with his son, Tarundeep Singh on the fateful day of November 1, 1984 in the Saraswati Vihar locality.
The case was started in the Punjabi Bagh police station and later it was transferred to a special research team. On December 16, 2021, the court dropped further proceedings and decided to frame charges against Kumar, which in legal terms means that the court has accepted the basic evidence Level against him.
Prosecution brought forth evidence suggesting that a large mob had gathered and members of this mob were fully armed and went on serious and extensive Sikh property looting, burning, and destruction that was much more than the murder of the ex-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. This mob allegedly also attacked the complainant’s house, killing both Jaswant and his son and burning their house to the ground as well.
