Delhi Court grants bail to AAP leader Satyendar Jain in money laundering case

On Tuesday, the convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party, Arvind Kejriwal, welcomed the Delhi court decision to grant bail to his party colleague Satyendar Jain, who had spent over two years in jail in a money laundering case.

Posting on X, Kejriwal said, “Satyendra Jain has got bail after spending over two years in jail. What was his fault? Raids were conducted at his premises repeatedly, but not a single penny was recovered.” He further claimed that Jain’s only “fault” was his service to public health by establishing mohalla clinics for free treatment to Delhi residents. “Modi ji put him in jail for closing down mohalla clinics and stopping free treatment for the poor. But God is with us. Today, he too has been released.”. Welcome back, Satyendra!” Kejriwal added.

The Enforcement Directorate arrested Satyendar Jain in May 2022 for allegedly laundering money through four companies linked to him. A Delhi court granted bail, observing that he had been incarcerated for 18 months and that the trial was likely to be delayed substantially. The court held that Jain was “favorably suited for relief” in the facts and circumstances.

Welcoming the bail, AAP tweeted on X: “Satyamev Jayate. Another conspiracy by the BJP bites the dust. Satyendra Jain ji, under whose leadership the health revolution was witnessed in Delhi in the form of mohalla clinics, has been granted bail by the court.

The real face of the BJP stands exposed before the entire country once again. Jain’s arrest was based on an FIR registered in 2017 by the CBI under the Prevention of Corruption Act. In his bail plea, Jain referred to a Supreme Court judgment that said indefinite incarceration pending trial is not permissible in law.
