Delhi downpour disrupts flights, triggers waterlogging woes

Delhi, the national capital of India, has been experiencing heavy rainfall, which has inconvenienced the inhabitants. The situation worsened as at least 10 flights destined for Delhi were affected, with the weather office claiming that the clouds enshrouding the city are from all four corners.

Due to the heavy showers, various complaints of house collapse have been received, and one of them was reported from Chandni Chowk Sadar Bazar, where a person is alleged to have been stuck under the debris.

There is an account of water-logging from different regions of the city; the incident occurred on Saturday, recalling three students killed in a flooded basement of a coaching institute in Rajinder Nagar.

The road to this coaching center has been flooded again, and pictures of people walking through the water about their knee level are worrying. The Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has enjoined all officers to be aware of the problems and take measures at places where water stagnates and regions with coaching institutions.

Some of the areas experiencing fatal water logging are the ITO junction, Connaught Place, Minto Road, Moti Bagh Flyover, and many others, which have been blocked due to traffic jams. The pass under the Minto Bridge is among the underpasses that have been closed; however, reports of fallen trees all over the capital have been received.

The National Meteorological Department in India has predicted that there will be light to moderate rainfall accompanied by isolated heavy to very heavy rain in the next two hours.

This explains that the inclement weather is expected to continue. Indian carriers such as Air India, Vistara, IndiGo, and SpiceJet, among others, have issued advisories relating to flight redirection and are appealing to clients to check the status of their flights.

While the people of Delhi face the impacts of this terrible event of heavy rainfall, the authorities have been challenged to undertake appropriate and proper measures to address their problems and provide them with the necessary precautions.
