Delhi HC summons woman to verify man’s claim of consensual marriage. New Delhi, The Delhi High Court has directed a woman to appear in person to verify whether her marriage with a man was consensual or not.
She appeared before the bench of Justices Pratibha M Singh and Amit Sharma through videoconferencing, during which her video was not switched on. The court noted that she had attempted to say her marriage was solemnized forcibly.
“The girl is taking contradictory stands as compared to what she has stated in the police station and what she has stated today. Let her be produced physically along with her family members on the next hearing date,” said the court.
The bench directed the police officials to ensure the safety of the woman and her family members when they were brought to the court on December 16.
The matter came to court when the husband sought production of his wife, alleging her parents took her away and was unreachable since October 24.
While the man said the couple had tied the knot despite her family’s opposition in a temple in September, and the woman also told the police that she had consented to the marriage, she took an opposite stand in Court later.
Before it, the court had a habeas corpus plea filed by the husband seeking his wife’s production.
He said as the parents of the woman were opposed to the marriage, they had filed a missing complaint with the police alleging that their daughter was untraceable.
