Delhi HC declines interim relief to CM Kejriwal in ED probe
The Delhi High Court has declined to grant any interim protection from coercive action to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal concerning the money laundering probe conducted against him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
While hearing CM Kejriwal’s petition seeking a stay on the ED investigation, the high court said it was not inclined to grant any interim relief at this stage. However, the court issued a notice to the ED seeking its response to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader’s plea and listed the matter for further hearing on April 22, 2024.
In his petition, CM Kejriwal alleged that the case registered by the ED against him was politically motivated and was an attempt to harass, discredit, and destroy him. He had requested the high court to quash the proceedings initiated by the ED.
Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, representing the ED, urged the court not to grant any relief to Kejriwal at this stage, asserting that the investigation agency needed to pursue the money laundering probe freely.
After hearing both sides, the bench of Justice Suresh Kait declined to stay the ED proceedings for now but ordered the investigation agency to file its response to Kejriwal’s allegations by the next hearing date. The court will further examine the maintainability of the ED case against the Delhi CM on April 22.
