In a shocking twist, love entrapped him in an engineering scam with an enormous bill and even an attempted kidnapping. The Delhi man received a WhatsApp message inviting him for a date in Ghaziabad, which looked like the beginning of something rosy-romantic but turned out to be a planned trap.
He was asked to meet at the Kaushambi metro and then to the first floor of the Kaushambi Hotel, where he was taken to the Tiger Cafe. He was suspicious, as there was no online presence about the cafe and no visible signboard. He had a feeling that something was not right, so he shared his live location with a friend and sent a message regarding the situation.
His worst fears came true when he tried to leave; he faced a whopping ₹16,400 bill for a glass of cold drink that his date had ordered. Protesting at this development would make things worse as the perpetrator restrained him by force and demanded ₹50,000 from him.
Thanks to his friend, the police were called for – and the police came pronto. This led to the busting of a dating scam gang with five women and three men. Reports suggest that four women are from Delhi and have profiles on various dating apps. They lure men to the Tiger Cafe, where they overcharge them heavily for food and drinks. They tend to keep victims captive until they make the demanded payment. It is an extortion technique.
The man was finally let off, but all eight were booked on a complaint he filed under an FIR. All eight accused have been arrested until now, and this gruesome case came to a swift conclusion.
