In a major operation, the Delhi Police have arrested two members of an inter-state armed syndicate involved in supplying weapons through social media, said police officials on Sunday.
According to the police, the accused are identified as Arvind Kumar (45) and Vinod Kumar (48), who are from Uttar Pradesh. The police seized eight country-made Kalashnikovs, respectively. That was done in accordance with Section 30(1) of the firearms Act by taking away all 32-bore pistols from their possession.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Amit Kaushik, the police received a tip-off on 19 August, in which they were informed that two armed traffickers would bring a consignment of two AK-47s and pistols to the Agra Canal Road in Jaitpur.
With the help of the information thus obtained, a police team was set up for the purpose, which, acting on the lead, laid a trap on Canal Road and arrested the two.
The officer also revealed that the accused has been in arms trafficking for eight years and communicated with the manufacturers of illicit arms in Khargone, Madhya Pradesh. “Earlier, they would buy the arms from Khargone and transport these to Delhi/NCR,” Kaushik explained.
The accused would appear to suppliers and receivers of arms from social networks to purchase the weapons for Rs 12000 rupees to Rs 15000 rupees and sell them for Rs. 25000 rupees to Rs 30000 rupees. Kaushik told the court that the duo had received an order for a supply of arms for Rs. 40,000 per piece in Delhi for the associate of a dreaded gangster of the capital.
Uttar Pradesh and Delhi courts reported 11 cases previously registered against Arvind Kumar. The police have embarked on investigations in order to establish the rest of the syndicate of arms trafficking across state lines.
