In a breakthrough in the Swati Maliwal assault case, the Delhi Police reached the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday. They gathered evidence, including DVR and CCTV footage, for further investigation.
Maliwal, who is a Rajya Sabha member, has alleged that Bibhav Kumar, the aide of the CM, had made a brutal assault on her at Kejriwal’s residence on May 13. Kumar beat her up at least 7 – 8 times with no provocation and ‘violently dragged’ her while ‘kicking’ her, which resulted in her falling and banging her head on a table.
The police have since retrieved the recordings of the CCTVs in the area. They will study the clips as part of the effort to deflect the claims made by Maliwal and the counter-complaint filed by Kumar, who claims that Maliwal forced her way into the CM’s premises and hurled obscene language at her.
The inquiry questioned video records from the relevant time on the day of the occurrence and found that ‘the video for the relevant time on the day of the occurrence is ‘blank’ when the video of the junior engineer of the dining room is checked. The AAP has claimed that the police are’ orchestrating false news’ for the BJP.
The matter has now become a political controversy, with the BJP party and the AAP party engaging in a war of words over how the Delhi Police handled the case.
