Delhi police dismantle Al-Qaeda-inspired terror module

A major crackdown was conducted by the Delhi Police, providing a major blow to a terrorist module said to be affiliated with al Qaeda by arresting 14 suspects from Jharkhand, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh. This group had planned to carry out several spectacular terror operations to create a ‘Khilafat’ in India.

Based on the statement from the Delhi Police, the operation was spearheaded by a suspect known as Dr. Ishtiyaq from Ranchi, Jharkhand. The module was in an active state, preparing for grave terror activities, including the establishment of a khilafat and breach of the nation’s security.

Police said that hideouts belonging to the terror module had shown that the members had been trained in handling weapons in unknown places. The operation was undertaken after key leads were received that outlined the group’s activities and plans. An emerging threat was effectively neutralized with the help of the Delhi Police and the state police forces.

But during the crack dawn operation, six suspects were nabbed in Bhiwadi in Rajasthan while they were being trained to use arms and ammunition. Besides, eight more persons were arrested from Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh for a more profound grilling. The authorities have seized all sorts of weapons, bullets, as well as manuals and other literature connected with terrorism.

Delhi Police officials said that more arrests will be made as police operations continue to flush out all those associated with the gang.
