Delhi police file FIR against derogatory remarks on Kirti Chakra’s widow

The Delhi Police have acted promptly and arrested a person who used abusive language on the social site for Smriti Singh, the wife of Kirti Chakra awardee (posthumously) Captain Anshuman Singh.

The FIR was registered by IFSO, the force’s Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operation unit, which lodged it after a complaint was filed in NCW.

The social media user from Delhi has been charged under section 79 (Word/Gesture/Act intended to insult the Modesty of any woman) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and section 67 (publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of the Information Technology (IT)Act.

The NCW had taken cognizance of the act suo moto and appealed to the Del police commissioner to act on the accused. The women’s body also wanted a detailed account in 3 days of the ‘behaviour’ and called for an intervention.

In July last year, doctor Captain Anshuman Singh, who was a medical officer posted with 26 Punjab, the unit that guards the Siachen Glacier, had died in a fire tragedy that occurred at an ammunition dump of the Indian Army.

He was awarded the second highest peacetime gallantry award, ‘Kirti Chakra, ’ posthumously for saving a few persons and trying to fetch important medical supplies in a fire-encompassing situation.

The Delhi Police have ensured that they are still investigating the case and will act according to the law’s provisions on aspects revealed in the matter.
