Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena announced the suspension of three traffic policemen caught on camera dividing money they allegedly accepted as a bribe.
CCTV footage that circulated widely showed a heated exchange between a policeman and a man inside a police checkpost at Gazipur, located at the Thrill Lauri Circle. Following their discussion, the man placed a bundle of cash on the table as the officer kept a lookout. Once the individual departed, the officer sat down to count the money. Later, two colleagues joined the officer as they split the funds, sharing smiles as they received their portions.
In response to the viral video, Saxena took to social media platform X to confirm the suspension of the three officers—two assistant sub-inspectors and one head constable. He stated, “Taking cognizance of this post, after preliminary investigation, the above three policemen have been suspended, and a comprehensive departmental inquiry is being conducted against them.”
This incident echoes previous controversies involving the Delhi Traffic Police. In July, a constable was suspended after he fined a South Korean national ₹5,000 for a traffic violation without issuing a receipt. The incident was captured on the vehicle’s dashboard camera and quickly spread across social media.
Earlier in June, two constables were suspended for allegedly accepting bribes from a transporter. The police indicated that a departmental inquiry was underway against the officers, Ranvir Singh and Rajesh Kumar, who could face dismissal.
