Delhi water Minister hospitalized amid hunger strike over water crisis

In a worrying turn added to the current water crisis in Delhi, AAP leader & Delhi Water Minister Atishi was admitted to the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital on Tuesday early morning.

This has come after her blood sugar level was reported to have lowered to a dangerous 36 during her hunger strike on Haryana’s failure to supply 100 Million gallons per day (MGD) of water to the national capital.

As AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed that Atishi’s blood sugar levels had fallen since the previous night, the party submitted her blood sample, rated 46. But another check done with a portable machine brought her sugar levels to a critical 36 within the next three hours.

“Atishi’s blood sugar level went down to 36. Hence she has been taken to LNJP Hospital, said Bharadwaj; the patient is stable, and her vital signs are observed by doctors, and further recommendations will be given.”

Atishi has been observing an indefinite hunger strike for the last five days and has promised to continue on this path until the Haryana government allows Delhi the amount of water that rightfully belongs to it and until the gates of the Hathnikund Barrage are open.

The AAP-led Delhi government has leveled serious allegations against Haryana, accusing it of reducing Delhi’s water supply by 100 MGD, worsening the ongoing water scarcity in the capital and indeed affecting more than 28 lakh people’s lives.

Delhi has been repeatedly affected by the water crisis; the situation worsened with the increase in temperatures and heat waves in the national capital leading to increased demand for water.
