Sources within the BJP suggest that the swearing-in ceremony for the new Chief Minister of Delhi will take place immediately after the return of Prime Minister Narendra Modi from his tour of the United States this week. The oath ceremony is supposed to be an extravaganza to mark the BJP’s re-emergence to power in Delhi after an interval of 26 years; all Chief Ministers from NDA-governed states have received invitations.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah will hold a meeting with BJP President JP Nadda today to deliberate over the formation of the government in the national capital. Besides, Delhi BJP Chief Virendraa Sachdeva will also meet with the 48 newly elected MLAs this evening. Discussions regarding the government formation and the oath ceremony were held at the BJP headquarters last evening. The attendees included Prime Minister Modi, Shah, and Nadda.
Although the BJP leadership hasn’t announced the name of the Chief Minister yet, newly elected New Delhi MLA Parvesh Verma is one of the strong contenders who have emerged stronger after defeating AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal.
He is a former two-time MP from West Delhi, and it was last year that he didn’t get the parliamentary election ticket, which motivated him to take part in the Assembly elections. He challenged Kejriwal in a constituency where the AAP leader had won three consecutive terms, defeating him by a margin of 4,000 votes. Verma is also the son of the late Sahib Singh Verma, former Chief Minister of Delhi.
After the BJP’s significant victory, Verma addressed the media, stating that the party leadership would ultimately decide the next Chief Minister of Delhi. He expressed gratitude to the voters, emphasizing that the victory represented a choice for truth, governance, and development.
“This is not my victory; it is the victory of the people of Delhi, who chose truth over lies, governance over gimmicks, and development over deception. I humbly thank every voter for their trust,” he said.
Verma also emphasized commitment towards service with the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Shah, and BJP President Nadda, with the promise to bring meaningful change to Delhi. He articulated that this mandate signals that it is a demand for honest, transparent, and development-focused politics.
In his speech, Prime Minister Modi thanked the voters of Delhi for their trust in “Modi ki Guarantee,” assuring them of a renewed focus on development. “Delhi is a gateway to the country and deserves the best infrastructure,” he stated, reinforcing the commitment to enhance the capital’s growth trajectory.
