Detonators, gas cylinder found on rail tracks in UP, MP

The incident occurred near the Sagphata railway station when the special train carrying Army personnel passed through from Jammu and Kashmir to Karnataka.

New Delhi: At least 10 detonators were recovered on the railway track as a design to blow up the train carrying Army personnel inside Madhya Pradesh’s Burhanpur district, officials said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred near Sagphata railway station on Wednesday while the army’s special train was going from Jammu and Kashmir to Karnataka.

As soon as the detonators exploded, the driver became alert and immediately halted the train. Then he informed the station master about it. No one was injured.

Senior officials from the ATS, NIA, railways, and the local police are scrutinizing the case.

An empty gas cylinder was recovered from the tracks near Prempur railway station in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, early Saturday morning. The goods train’s loco pilot applied emergency brakes to stop the train.

The police said the incident occurred at 8:10 am when the train was heading from Kanpur to Prayagraj.

“It was found that the cylinder is of five-kilogram capacity and empty. It was removed from the track. The matter is being investigated,” said the police.

It was the second such attack in Uttar Pradesh this month. In the first week of September, an attempt to derail Kalindi Express, which was running for Bhiwani from Prayagraj, was made when an LPG cylinder was placed on the railway track.
