In a shocking incident reported from the Sambalpur district of Odisha, the police arrested one man and his son on the grounds of accusing them of murdering the man’s 90-year-old mother and 62-year-old sister. On Tuesday night, the charred bodies of Snehalata Dikshit and her daughter Sairendri Dikshit were recovered from the first floor of their home in the Hatapada area.
The case of unnatural death gradually turned out to be that of a pre-planned murder as the police interrogations of family members were in full swing. Sambalpur ASP Ajay Mishra confirmed that the investigation revealed the murders were premeditated and linked to a property dispute. Accused Jagannath Dikshit and his son Sanket were taken into custody following this finding.
According to the police report, both women were strangled before the bodies were set ablaze. The final causes of death will be established when the post-mortem results are in. Indrani Purohit, Snehalata’s younger daughter, alleged that her brother was motivated by a dispute over land and property.
The two victims stayed on the first floor of the two-storey building, while Jagannath stayed with his family on the ground floor. The police received a fire call between 10:30 PM and 11 PM on November 5th after flames began to pour out from the upper floor. The officers who reached the spot found charred remains and initiated a thorough investigation into the unfortunate incident.
