Amidst the particular political passages ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued a show-cause order to Abhijit Gangapadhyay, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) competitor from the Tamluk constituency in the state of West Bengal.
The said notice is issued thanks to the formal complaint that the TMC registered, which also explicitly condemns and rejects Gangopadhyay’s “sexism” and exploiting vulgar content about the CM.
Gangopadhyay, allegedly of TMC’s complaint, said things about West Bengal chief minister Banerjee’s demeanor and beauty, in addition to the price of the makeup she uses. The panel lamented that such comments “are not right in every dimension, and bad taste,” and the ECI had issued a warning. This was a breach of the MCC.
TMC, however, has denied the charges, suggesting the video showing Boom Boom Boom jokingly narrated by Gangopadhyay was “fake” and a “ploy by TMC party to malign BJP.”
“As the chief spokesperson of the Bengal BJP, Samik Bhattacharya has also candidly expressed that the intimidation would not alleviate the impact or win of elections from the forthcoming round of Lok Sabha.”
The EC has ordered the ECI to respond to the show-cause notice within 15 May, indicating the possibility of competing with political foes in the nomination battle in the upcoming general elections.
