Elderly Cameroonian arrested for ₹11 crore cocaine smuggling at Delhi airport

Delhi customs have arrested a 70-year-old national from Cameroon in its much-publicized crackdown on smack; the accused tried to smuggle ₹11 crore worth of cocaine into the country. The narcotics were found in the alimentary canal of the accused.

Officials said the accused, known as Simon Alfred Nagong, came to India via Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on June 17 through Indira Gandhi International Airport. The fact that Nagong repeatedly and anomalously behaved in an excited, nervous, and confused manner at Terminal 3 of the airport made the authorities take him to additional questioning and investigation.

From the cross-examination, the accused admitted to having concealed several drugs in his body. The Customs Department team then took Nagong to Safdarjung Hospital, where a Medical Board strictly supervised him.

Purging the body of the drugs required an ejection procedure, which was done under medical advice. A stool test conducted after many days of monitoring expelled 73 capsules of cocaine from the ‘stomach’ of the accused; the capsules weighed 1.96 kgs, Black-Site-II, Customs Department confirmed; the worth is around ₹11 crore.

Further, the police said they seized a passport of the Republic of Cameroon from the accused.

India’s powerful and influential have yet to be identified as Simon Alfred Nagong was arrested under the Customs Act but further investigation is carried out to identify the person who was supposed to receive the said cocaine.
