Election Commission implements doorstep voting for elderly and persons with disabilities

In an unprecedented decision, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has introduced doorstep voting for those 85 and above and for Persons with Disabilities (PwD). The primary purpose of this step is to boost inclusive and fair electoral processes.

Universal adult suffrage for senior people and Persons with disabilities enrolled in more than 81 lakhs and 90 lakhs, respectively. On the other hand, the Election Commission of India works towards facilitating these people in exercising their franchise without any drawbacks. The constituency of these persons is a 40% disability (more or less) confirmed by the appropriate authority.

The BLO has added a new approach to the scheme: after all the appropriate documents are in order, Form 12D is collected from the elector’s address. A crew of workers, including the officials concerned with polling and security, is sent to inquire about the situation.

This bespoke service enables voters to send their vote by post directly from their homes. The pathway to such privilege is possible since it doesn’t require an extra trip to the polling stations. For the sake of comfort, citizens will be informed in advance of the designated days through text message, which will be sent to a mobile number indicated in the application form.

Through such an advanced method of the Election Commission, not only do geriatric citizens and PwD voters gain authority, but the initiative also demonstrates the AEC’S resolve to be inclusive and to offer for all regardless of their abilities. It serves as a loud signal of the constant strive to bring more democracy and equality into the world of elections among everyone.
