According to news agency PTI, election officials in Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiris conducted a comprehensive inspection of a helicopter transporting Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. The incident unfolded during Gandhi’s journey to Wayanad, his Lok Sabha constituency in Kerala, where he had a series of campaign activities scheduled, including a roadshow and a public meeting.
The flying squad officials scrutinized Gandhi’s helicopter after it landed in the Nilgiris. The purpose of the inspection remains undisclosed. Rahul Gandhi, who secured victory from Wayanad in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, is now seeking re-election for the seat.
Adding intrigue to the electoral landscape, Gandhi will face Annie Raja from the Communist Party of India (CPI), an ally of the Opposition INDIA bloc, as his opponent. Meanwhile, his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rival is K Surendran, the party’s chief in Kerala.
Kerala, with its 20 Lok Sabha seats, is set to hold elections on April 26 in a single phase, while Tamil Nadu will witness polls for 39 constituencies on April 19. As the election fervour intensifies, the incident involving Rahul Gandhi’s helicopter inspection adds a new dimension to the ongoing political developments in the region.
