One of the ladies of the show, Kinjal Mathur, described how she tried to contact the local companies and people, invoking them and offering internships and volunteering services.
Squarespace’s American software services CMO Kinjal Mathur recently told Gen Z candidates to be willing to work during ‘any hours at any pay’, to not become ‘unemployable’.
She worked at the travel firm called Travelocity as an intern and then rose through the ranks at Conde Nast, Saks Fifth Avenue, Foursquare, and is now the CMO at Squarespace.
She told about her first attempt to contact the businesses and individuals in her city, mailing them and offering a free internship. The same she expects from the Gen Z job seekers, who according to her are in the process of producing the “unemployable” citizens.
Ms. Mathur said this while speaking to Fortune, and she noted that she did not think that she would get a job immediately after acquiring a finance degree in 2000.
She also had “concerns about her future.” ‘Every single summer I was attempting to look for some internship,’ she said to the outlet. I just wanted to gain some experience.
Ms. Mathur described how she was attempting to get in touch with companies and individuals in her city and how she used to call corporations trying to be offered internships or be paid to work for free.
This benefited a New York-based executive as she snagged an internship at a travel company called Travelocity on her first summer at the University of Texas, and though she didn’t earn money, it enriched her resume incredibly.
