Four persons were injured in an explosion in a general coach of the Howrah Mail near Sirhind railway station in Fatehgarh Sahib district of Punjab, Government Railway Police (GRP) officials said. The incident occurred around 10:30 PM on Saturday when the train went from Amritsar to Howrah.
The blast came out from a plastic bucket carrying firecrackers. Four passengers, including a woman, were injured. The injured were soon rushed to Fatehgarh Sahib Civil Hospital, confirmed GRP Deputy Superintendent of Police Jagmohan Singh.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the blast was caused by firecrackers, which were kept inside the plastic bucket in the general compartment of the train. Samples from the scene will be sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for further analysis. Further investigation into the incident is on, with authorities working to uncover more details.
