All India medical associations’ umbrella body FAIMA said today that they will go on a hunger strike across the country in solidarity with protests against the alleged rape and murder of a junior doctor in West Bengal beginning from Wednesday, two months after the incident involving a trainee doctor at R G Kar Medical College on August 9.
In the meeting held on Monday, FAIMA declared solidarity with the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front. “We have been in close contact with the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front and united in our stance,” President Suvrankar Datta confirmed.
The hunger strike is intended to highlight the plight of junior doctors who have been on strike for several weeks, protesting working conditions, safety, and necessary reforms in the health sector.
FAIMA has called upon healthcare workers nationwide to join the hunger strike, emphasizing unity among all medical professionals as a priority for seeking fair treatment and improving the lot. In a statement, the association emphasized that this would demonstrate a collective commitment to find remedies for these pressing issues in the medical community.
