Heaving responded to the central government’s invite to have talks at Chandigarh on February 14, farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal of Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Sidhupur), state president who had gone on a fast unto death on November 26, agreed for the first time to take medical aid. Therefore, he received glucose and all the other essentials drip from midnight on January 19.
Earlier, a team of officials from the center led by Priya Ranjan, joint secretary of the Union Agriculture Ministry, met Dallewal and representatives of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM). They have been protesting at the Punjab-Haryana border (Shambhu and Khannauri, district Patiala) since February 13, 2024.
Following that, a letter was handed over, which invited SKM NP and KMM to meet at 5 pm on February 14 at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Public Administration in Sector 26, Chandigarh, to carry forward the talks that had been held last on February 15, 2024.
