FIR approved against AAP leaders in classroom scam

President Droupadi Murmu has given assent to the filing of an FIR against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain in an alleged ₹1,300 crore scam in connection with the construction of classrooms in Delhi government schools.

The recommendation for the investigation was made by the vigilance directorate of the Delhi government in 2022, which also submitted a detailed report to the chief secretary.

The FIR is in connection with purported impropriety in Sisodia and Jain’s ministerial tenures in the Arvind Kejriwal government, sources indicate. The case depends on a report of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) that on February 17, 2020, found critical irregularities in the process of constructing over 2,400 classrooms by the Public Works Department (PWD) in Delhi.

This step is a significant escalation of the ongoing investigation into the AAP government’s handling of education infrastructure in the capital, which has raised questions of governance and accountability in the public sector.
