In a shocking incident reported from Tamil Nadu’s Trichy district, five office bearers of a private school, including the trustee and headmistress, were arrested for sexual harassment of a Class 4 girl student. The case sparked huge protests among parents in the Manapparai area.
Police sources said the alleged harassment was by Vasantha Kumar, husband of the school correspondent and trustee. The traumatic experience was first narrated by the nine-year-old girl to her parents, who immediately approached the police with the counselling provided by her grandmother.
The police, in turn, have registered a case under the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, indicating how grave the charges are. According to the police, the trustee asked the class teacher to go out before harassing the girl on Thursday.
All these came amid protests from the community, with locals blocking traffic and vandalizing school property over the incident. This situation raises deep concerns about the safety of children in educational facilities and questions the urgent need for accountability.
