Five arrested in gang-rape case of 13-year-old in Arunachal

Police in Arunachal Pradesh have arrested five persons in connection with the alleged kidnap and gang-rape of a 13-year-old girl from Upper Subansiri district.

Now, police have accused the girl of being gang-raped for five days in the month of July. This came to light after her family reported her missing to police, leading to search and rescue on 28/07/2016.

Speaking on the issue, Upper Subansiri’s Superintendent of Police, Thutan Jamba, said that the girl was rescued on the day and taken through all the necessary tests. However, the authorities recorded her, issuing the statement.

From the investigation, one suspect was arrested on July 29, who gave information on four other associates. The other suspects were arrested last week, and it is still in the process of interviewing all of them.

All five accused persons have been produced in court and charged under sections 137(2), 70(2), and 3(5) of the BNS and section 6 of the POCSO Act. The police are still pursuing the matter to ensure justice is served.
